A Postcard from Cabo

A Travel Guide for Cabo San Lucas:

My husband and I got married in 2016. Rose was born in August of 2018 and our son Alastair in 2020. We realized in the whirlwind that is life that we hadn’t been on a trip alone since our honeymoon. After the year of the pandemic, we thought it was a perfect time to prioritize our marriage and travel to Cabo San Lucas Mexico. We allowed ourselves three nights and four days in Paradise. For this reason we found flights with United non-stop from Denver, Colorado to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In this short trip we managed to experience the romance, fun and exuberant culture that Cabo has to offer. Here is our list of five things you must do while in Cabo.

Rent a Car

Since we traveled during July 2020 ( pandemic season) ,a car rental seemed a necessity in an attempt to social distance. Renting the car afforded us the freedom to set our own schedule and capitalize on every moment. Our hotel was only fifteen minutes from most things, but the car gave us more options for dining out and even the option to go grocery shopping. I  will say when renting a car choose a familiar car rental company. We chose a lesser known company and had an awful experience. It cost us four hours of the trip and a lot of stress trying to secure an alternate car with another company.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous, it is indwelt into the face of the hillside affording breathtaking ocean views. The staff are helpful and friendly, no task is too small. We spent our breakfasts at Inizio’s, on the rooftop terrace watching the boats as they floated across the water. The generous pools are spacious, clean and nicely appointed. One even features a swim up bar. Our room was a retreat in and of itself. We spent our evenings with a glass of wine and dessert on our balcony, watching the sunset over the infinite ocean.

Jet Ski: This action packed excursion from Cabo Adventures is one of my favorite memories from the trip. It was three hours of high speeds, abounding laughter and tremendous ocean views. The tour guides were warm, knowledgeable and added so much personality to the trip. My husband is more serious in demeanor, but on this trip he giggled and whooped like a little kid on Christmas morning. The tour offers professional photography, and I am so sad that I didn’t spend the $80.00 on the package. The pictures were amazingly beautiful and they captured the joy  and giddiness of the day. Not having those memories in print is my biggest regret from the trip.  (Trip Cost $123 per person for 3 hours, with lunch included).

Luxury Sailing in Cabo: On day three of our trip we took a four hour sailing trip ,also with Cabo Adventures. This was a full day with many layers, sailing, snorkeling, sightseeing, drinks and lunch, made for an exciting day. Scott and I were with four other families, and the boat afforded us all with personal space. The first hour and half was sailing from the port to a protected reef. Followed by drinks and appetizers served on the upper deck. In the second hour we were taken to a protected reef where we were able to snorkel amongst numerous fish and ocean life. On the return trip the sun set, as mischievous sting rays jumped out of the water alongside our boat.

This was a peaceful and sunny excursion that was perfect for couples and family. The eclectic music choice on the boat took us from the 80’s to the best Latin pop of 2021. There may have been some dancing and shameless head bobbing , but everyone jammed and sang together.

( Trip Cost $97.00 per person for 4 hours, lunch, drinks, and appetizers included.)

Our family traveled to Downtown Cabo San Lucas for dinner each night. We found this awesome taqueria: Gardenias. This restaurant specializes in authentic tacos and margaritas. It was a warm and smaller establishment but the presentation of the food and drinks were exceptional.  My favorite taco was the blackened shrimp taco served with fresh gaucamole, pico de gallo, and Mexican crema. Six of us dined and had cocktails for $80.00 total. I would highly recommend making this a part of your trip. Otherwise you are missing out on a delightful meal in Cabo. Oh and the strawberry margarita.. muy bien!!
