Threads on a Budget

Bold & Bougie

Thrift Shopping :

My husband and I discovered Blackish and the rest of the Ish franchise over the course of the Pandemic. We enjoyed watching how the show  celebrated the beauty in different skin hues .While. celebrating the beauty of being unique, and colorful in dress and personality. Each character had an unapologetically fabulous disposition and fashion sense.

Every week I looked forward to seeing the bold patterns and uncommon outfits each character doned. There was a sense of confidence and outspoken movement to each outfit chosen. From Dre to Bow, I adored the vibrant colors, unusual color palettes. The stylin kicks and the hair styles that gave a nod to the story of their heritage.

Recreate Expensive Looks:

Even though their fashions were bougie and designer. It doesn’t mean that a thrifty shopper like myself cannot find threads to emulate the spirit of Blackish. After all they were rich and I am not money rich. But I am however,  rich in spirit..hahaha. So I took to the local thrift store to find a Blackish look all my own.  For this look I set a budget of $25.00 or less from head to toe.

The hunt for my Blackish attire went extremely well, each piece made me smile and connect back to the joy I felt in watching the show. The outfit is just the catalyst for the pride and confidence that has to come from within. I have struggled with confidence my entire life, but each day brings new opportunities to grow in that area. Blackish reminded me that confidence and self love are worth fighting for.

The Haul:

Sperry Top Siders in Pink Marble $4.50

A New Day Crop Tee $2.00

Theory Jacket $5.00

Bubblegum Striped Pants $3.50

Outfit Total: $15.00

The experience and the fun in finding new threads….priceless.

Happy Thirfting!
