The Power of a Child’s Prayer

Children's Prayers are Powerful:

As a teacher. I am always looking for books or activities that will enhance my children’s learning. Even though they are young, I want to fill the days with skills that will help them  in a traditional classroom.

I have taught them songs to sing when they wash their hands or when they need to practice patience. We have gone to the library to get books on a topic that relates to our daily lives from gardening books to cookbooks.

Prayer is Teachable:

But one area I hadn’t really thought about was teaching my children how to pray powerful prayers. Of course before bed I have said elementary prayers with each of my children. It wasn’t until I witnessed my husband praying with my daughter that I realized prayer is an important thing to teach our children. Especially ,when they are young.

As they prayed my heart took flight, my daughter was praying as though she was confident to whom she was praying. “ Dear Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins, May I glorify your name.” At two and a half years old Rose was being shown how to use one of the most powerful tools she has in her arsenal. Her age was no matter at all.

A Powerful Prayer Life:

At that moment this teacher became a humble student.  I felt so proud of my husband for modeling powerful prayers to our daughter.  I can only imagine what the strength of her prayer life will be  like after having this foundation set for her.

This experience reminded me that God doesn’t have to be put in a box for my children to understand Him. Rather, I need to remind them daily that  they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength (Philippians 4:13). And that He has given them the ability to do powerful and great things in His Name. Even pray really big prayers.

It’s never too early to introduce children to audible prayers as well as written one. This lovely keepsake prayer journal is appropriate for your children. Perfect for birthdays, baptism, Christmas and every occasion in between

Yes! Children can pray, REALLY big prayers. And to think, those prayers never expire, so the prayers she prays at 2 and a half will last until she is 90! So powerful to think about.
