Threads on a Budget

Fall Fashions on a Budget

Fall is iconic for its rich earth tones, and the leaves changing color. With the seasons change, comes the permission to break out the chunky sweaters and ankle booties. Browns, oranges, burgundies, and all hues of grey sit right at home against the backdrop of Fall.

Thrift Shopping for Fall:

In my most recent Goodwill shopping trip I wanted to focus on  finding interesting patterns. Specifically featuring harvest yellows and sage greens to compliment the aforementioned colors. Here are twelve thrift store staples that will transform your Fall wardrobe. The pieces are easy to find in thrift stores and complimentary to many different body types. These budget friendly clothes  will surely be amongst some of your favorites within your wardrobe.  I will show you three outfit suggestions, using some of the pieces I have found. This twelve piece wardrobe capsule for Fall cost under $50.00.

White T-Shirt

I found a lovely white shirt with macrame detailing on the back. The airy and light pattern gives the plain old white shirt a  bit of a facelift. This is an item you can use year round on it’s own or with layering.

Two Printed Silk Shirts:

The first shirt I found came in a unique print, which featured different types of birds. It has browns, harvest yellows and reds which I can highlight using various accessories, think hats, necklaces or earrings. The second one was a paisley, 70’s inspired print. It has big flowers in navy blue, accompanied by vibrant yellows and oranges.

A-line Skirt

A-line skirts are just classic and elegant in any season. It is a great piece to dress up or down. A tall riding boot or a sweet flat, pairs well with the cut  of this skirt. I found one in a golden color, but the fabric has been agitated to create a pattern which gives  the color some movement. It is nice to find a skirt that is fully lined, so be sure to check the thickness of the skirt before you buy it.

Classic Blue Jeans

I found a great pair of DKNY jeans that were actually long enough for my legs. They are skinny jeans that fall right on my ankle bone. Nice, designer jeans are one of Goodwill’s greatest gems. I only purchase jeans at Goodwill as they seem to fit the best and the price works for me ( $6.00 and under).

Cropped Dress Pants

This pant is more dressy than a pair of jeans. I wore these often while teaching because they are comfortable and have more stretch than the average pair of jeans. The pair I found were a darkish blue grey color and they match well with many of my shirts.

Long Cardigan

LuluRoe cardigans are really neat, they are long and usually feature unique patterns. This one with roses reminded me of my mum so it was bound to end up in the cart. I find that patterns with different colors  afford some opportunities to accessorize your outfit in different ways.

 Three Quarter Sleeve Dress

The three quarter length dress is a must, it is the best friend of leggings. These dresses are comfortable, and they offer elegance without being restrictive. I especially loved these dresses while pregnant.

Silk Scarf

When I lived in Italy, airy scarfs were iconic artifacts of every piazza. Both the women and the men looked so polished and put together, and the scarf was the focal point of each outfit.

Sweater Vest

Sweater vests are versatile as they can be worn alone on warmer days or layered on colder days. They look good on everyone and they offer a sophisticated touch without making one feel overdressed. A solid color is preferable.

Peasant Shirt

I found a peasant shirt in forest green with white flowers. These shirts are perfect with the blazer or with the a-line skirt. The cut is slimming, yet playful at the same time..

Jacket Blazer

I really like the blazer jacket because it goes with your blue jeans or you can dress it up with a mini skirt. It gives warmth without being too bulky. A great way to accessorize this jacket is with a long necklace.
