A Bible Lesson for Kids: Jacob's Ladder

The Old Testament is a rich and significant portion of the Bible that affords us a deep delve into our biblical lineage. Usually, when it comes to kids, large chunks of the Bible are censored. I believe this is a mistake especially since, removing this portion of scripture from view changes the way kids understand the New Testament. Jacob’s Ladder for Kids is a vital story in their understanding of God.

Undoubtedly, it is a beautiful portrait of how God pursues his children, even in their sleep. Clearly, Jacob is in flight mode after quarreling with his brother. Naturally, he is leaving everything he has ever known behind in order to survive. Hence, after a long emotional and physically draining journey he tends to his most basic human need, the need for sleep.

Jacob's Ladder Show God's Promises:

In contrast,  to fear the and fatigue God gives Jacob the most beautiful vision of a ladder extending from Earth to Heaven as angels ascend and descend the ladder.  In this case, God is reassuring him that despite all the unexpected events He will fulfill His promises to Jacob.

Moreover, this Bible lesson assures us that God will never leave us. For my daughter Rose who sometimes fears being alone, this is a lesson that is sure to speak to her little heart. First, share the following with your children:

Finally, a word on Bibles, we have quite a few versions of the Bible, these are our favorites for very young kids all the way to middle school aged kids.  Of course God’s word can be accessible at any age but having  a version with language that children can understand is vital to their comprehension and spiritual growth:

9 and up : The Action Bible

Ages 5-8 years old: The Jesus Storybook Bible

Ages 1-4 years: The Toddler’s Bible
