Kid's Bible Lesson, Joseph:

Loved by some yet hated by others. This bible lesson for kids explains that before Joseph could experience God’s favor and plan .He had to endure hardships within his own family. Unquestionably, the coat of many colors was a small glimpse into the riches God would bestow upon him. Throughout this  bible story children will learn and understand that when bad things happen to good people, God still remains faithful. Consequently, His love makes us braver and stronger.

Why the Rainbow Coat is Important to the Bible Lesson:

Begin by reading the Bible story of Joseph to your child(ren). Additionally, you may need to adjust some of the storytelling based on the level of your reader.  Be sure to point out that Joseph was deeply loved by his parents. Ensure that  it is clear that only he was given the special coat . Also important to note, not only did Joseph have a nice jacket but he also had the ability to understand dreams. Meanwhile, his brothers had boring old smocks. As a result, instead of being happy for their brother, they were angry and jealous.

Following the story, hand your child the paper napkin. Continue by asking them to show you on the napkin what the brothers did to the jacket in response to their anger. Furthermore, the brothers not only ruined the jacked but they sold their brother into a life of slavery and separation from his family. In contrast, to God’s favor we see Joseph having to be brave as he has to trust God to deliver him.

Follow Up Questions:

  1. What special gift did Joseph get from his parents?
  2. Did his brothers get one too?
  3. What could Joseph understand that others couldn’t?
  4. What happened to Joseph’s coat and why?
  5. Why was Joseph sold into slavery?

Children’s Bible:

Lastly, a word on Bibles, we have quite a few versions of the Bible, these are our favorites for very young kids all the way to middle school aged kids.  Of course God’s word can be accessible at any age but having  a version with language that children can understand is vital to their comprehension and spiritual growth:
