Joshua Bible Lesson:

Before the colossal battle of Jericho begins kids are introduced to Rahab. Rahab, like Jacob, wanted to obey God. More importantly, many people in Jericho were sinning and didn’t want to obey God. Yet,  God has chosen Joshua to fight a battle but not in the way he anticipated.

Joseph Theme Verse:

Joshua and The Battle of Jericho :

To Begin, read the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho from your kids’ Bible.

Joshua was called by God to fight an epic battle.   Not only was he was the leader of an army, but he was also an average man. The people in the city of Jericho lived inside a huge fortress,  ( surrounded by thick walls) no one came in and no one came out. Sadly, many people inside the city were sinning against God.

God is Faithful Even in Battle:

So how would Joshua and his army (The Israelites) get inside this city? Joshua sent two spies to find a way in. Once there, they were in a lot of danger but a lady by the name of Rahab chose to hide the spies on one condition…. That God whom the spies served would save her and her family. Rahab lived in the city of Jericho and she was a sinner too, but she believed that God was who He said He was.  Markedly, in that moment that she chose to help the spies, her life would never be the same again. She would be forgiven of her sins and saved. Rahab obeyed God. Consequently, no one could find the hidden spices. Joshua Obeyed God.

An Unusual Battle Plan:

Consequently, instead of fighting God gave Joshua very specific instructions and Joshua obeyed God.

“March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will fall down.” Joshua 6: 3-4 NIV

Items Needed:

Blocks, Dominos or Magnet Tiles

Instructions:

Have your children build their version of the city of Jericho. Once erected, ask your children to march around the city 6 times in silence, then on the 7th turn allow them to shout and knock down the city. If you have small kiddos you may have to rebuild the city many times, it took us three attempts to get to the 7th turn.

Children's Bibles:

A Word on Bibles, we have quite a few versions of the Bible, these are our favorites for very young kids all the way to middle school aged kids.  Of course God’s word can be accessible at any age but having  a version with language that children can understand is vital to their comprehension and spiritual growth:
