Undoubtedly, one of my favorite things as a mom is being able to share the Bible with my kids. The questions they ask about life, the world and people around them intrigues me. This last week we journey from the beginning, the creation story. Though it is a story I have read many times, seeing it from the lens of my own children gave me a deeper appreciation for God. This Creation Bible Lesson for Kids is perfect for homeschool curriculum or kids bible study.

Let the Creation Begin:

For this reason, the creation diagram was something my two and half and three and half year old kids could do. It came together with a few paints, dollar store items and a kids bible. As each day went on we added to the diagram and they both eagerly waited for the next element that brought us closer to the full story.

Children’s Bible:

Next, a  Word on Bibles, we have quite a few versions of the Bible, these are our favorites for very young kids all the way to middle school aged kids.  Of course God’s word can be accessible at any age but having  a version with language that children can understand is vital to their comprehension and spiritual growth:

9 and up : The Action Bible

Ages 5-8 years old: The Jesus Storybook Bible

Ages 1-4 years: The Toddler’s Bible

Creation Bible Lesson:

To begin, children will learn that God created the world from nothing. Nothing was there until He spoke things into place. And each day over the course of a week, He created all things  including me and you.

Day One Night and Day :

Introduce the blank box, show your children a dark space and recite  the theme verse Genesis 1:1 and play the theme song for them.

Day Two Sky:

Next, we used a white colored pencil to create clouds or sky.

Day Three Land, Seas, Plants and Trees:

Continuing with paint , the kids used green and blue dot markers to represent the  land and planets. Finger paints and q-tips made awesome “flowers.”

Day Four Sun, Moon and Starts :

In addition, to dot markers we used glitter to make stars and planets.

Day Five Animals: :

Clearly, the animal stickers gave the board some depth and the kids had such a fun time choosing which ones they wanted to include. Even still, we have extra stickers left over which will be useful in future crafts and sticker book fun.

Day Six Adam and Eve, Day Seven, Rest:

Lastly, Adam and Eve: Use whatever medium you like here. I simply drew a stick figure of a man and woman using colored pencils.

God Rested: Lastly, place the board in a central area. Now that your kids are done creating  and ask them to lie down for a few minutes. Remind them that God rested on the seventh day when He had created everything and it was good.

Closing Thoughts:

Furthermore, the gradual creation board gives  kids time to conceptualize exactly all God created. There will be many questions, so enjoy the sweet way their minds work. I encourage you to share this diagram during dinner, as it encourages great conversation.
