10 Bible Verse to Declare Over Your Children
10 Bible Verses to Pray for Your Children:
Recently, I embarked upon the Elijah: Faith and Fire bible study by Priscilla Shirer. As always it was full of biblical truths and lessons to live by. In one of her teaching videos she mentioned that she spoke scripture over her sons. This is a practice she has carried since they were very little. My initial reaction was “huh,” followed by a “duh” and in the same breath “oh!” In my quiet times I search for verses that speak to me and build me up.My highlighted bible is testament to that. So, why on earth would I not seek verses to speak over my own children? There was one thing that left me awestruck in Priscilla’s teaching. Her sons are no longer little children, but are young men who meet her in those declarations. So deeply hidden are those words that they can call them up from the chambers of their very hearts word for precious word.. What a beautifully intentional gift she has given those young men.
To be honest I feel a little silly trying this on for size. But I know the more I put this into practice the more natural it will feel to my soul and to my children. There will be times that I forget to say these things but putting them on paper is a good place to start. Here are the ten verses that speak a message of God and who my kids are to Him.
YOU ARE WORTH DYING FOR: 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
GOD HAS NOT GIVEN YOU FEAR, BUT BOLDNESS: 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
JESUS DREAMS ABOUT YOU:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9
YOU ARE FORGIVEN: 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14
YOU ARE GOD’S LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS:14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14
THE LORD FIGHTS FOR YOU:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
YOUR BODY IS GOD’S TEMPLE:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
YOU HAVE GOD’S JOY IN YOU: 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

I can’t imagine anything more important than teaching our children these truths of who they are in God’s eyes! Do you have a routine for incorporating these moments of truth into your day?

I think I will make a poster with the verses to hang in the kitchen. The teacher in me still loves a good sharpie and a poster board. The verses will present themselves to life moments pretty easily. Rose is in an “I Can’t” phase so I say ” You can do anything with God’s strength.”Thanks for reading the post.
